A diary (school will provide one for each student) What you need to do to organise your English folder: Divide your English folder into the following sections – ·A ‘WRITING IN CONTEXT’ section ·A ‘TEXT RESPONSE’ section (make sure all work for each separate text response is kept together) ·An ‘ISSUES’ section (Analysis and Point of View - Oral Presentation) ·A ‘REVISION’ section
Work Requirements for this year: Writing In Context:Will require you to draw on ideas and/or arguments suggested by a chosen Context to create written texts for a specified audience and purpose; and to discuss and analyse in writing their decisions about form, purpose, language, audience and context. This task requires you to complete: Course Work: ·Tasks to demonstrate an understanding of the Context theme – Whose Reality? ·Tasks to demonstrate an understanding of how this theme relates to the appropriate text. SAC: ·at least one sustained written text created for a specific audience and context, with a written explanation of decisions about form, purpose, language, audience and context
OR ·three to five shorter texts created for a specific audience/s and context/s with a written explanation of decisions about form, purpose, language, audience and context.
This Outcome will be assessed with SACs in both Unit 3 and Unit 4 and involves a study of the following text types from published VCAA list:
·Play (Tennessee Williams – A Streetcar Named Desire) ·A Film Text (Robert Altman’s - The Player) Text Response/s:Will require you to make a comprehensive study of the selected texts and demonstrate your understanding of the characters, themes, plot and setting. Course Work: ·Students are required to complete short tasks to demonstrate an understanding of the characters, themes, plot and setting. SAC: ·Students are required to complete a text response essay for each of the selected texts.
This Outcome will be assessed with SACs in both Unit 3 and Unit 4 and involves a study of the following texts from the published VCAA list:
·A novel (Yann Martel – Life of Pi) ·Play (Louis Nowra – Cosi) Response to Issues:Will require you to demonstrate an ability to analyse language designed to persuade and to present your own point of view in response to the set issue. Course Work: ·Tasks will be undertaken by students to show their understanding of persuasive techniques and how they are deployed to influence an audience. Analysis SAC: ·This SAC requires students to analyse three articles related to one of the set issues currently within the media and is completed in Unit 3 in the first semester of Year 12. There is also an issues component in the final examination. Point of View Oral Presentation SAC: ·This SAC requires students to give a formal oral presentation and is completed in Unit 3 in the first semester of Year 12. This year you will be required to present your point of view in a formal oral presentation on an issue. End of year Exam:The end-of-year examination will contribute 50 per cent to the study score and will cover all aspects of the English course covered throughout Units 3 & 4.
